It is confirmed. UFC Fight Night lands in Sydney on Sunday 7 February 2027 at Afterpay Arena, and the Road to UFC Season 5 bantamweight final between Nepal's Rabindra Dhant and Japan's Ryo Tajima belongs on that weekend. A UFC contract for the winner, and for Nepal, a shot at its first fighter on the UFC roster.
What's confirmed
- •The event. UFC Fight Night, Sydney. The first in the city since 2017.
- •The date. Sunday 7 February 2027.
- •The venue. Afterpay Arena at Sydney Olympic Park, the same building fans knew as Qudos Bank Arena.
- •The history. Third February in a row with UFC in Sydney, after UFC 312 (2025) and UFC 325 (2026).
- •Fight week. Open workouts, the press conference and ceremonial weigh-ins, free and open to the public.
How Dhant got here
Rabindra Dhant is 11-1 with eight knockouts, a bantamweight from Bajhang in far-west Nepal fighting out of Kathmandu. In August 2025 he knocked out Chungreng Koren to win the Matrix Fight Night bantamweight title, the first Nepali to take a belt in a professional MMA promotion. In May 2026 he became the first Nepali to win a Road to UFC bout, stopping Kimbert Alintozon in the quarterfinal in Macau.
Then Shanghai. On 28 August 2026 he beat New Zealand's Kasib Murdoch by split decision (29-28), handing Murdoch the first loss of his career and becoming the first Nepali fighter to reach a Road to UFC final. It was close. It still counts the same.
The man across from him
Ryo Tajima is 12-3, a rangy bantamweight out of Saitama who took the other semifinal on the same Shanghai card, beating Chungreng Koren by unanimous decision. The thread worth pulling: Dhant knocked Koren out for a title, while Tajima needed three rounds and two close cards to get past the same man. That's not a prediction. Styles do what they like, but it tells you the shape of this fight: a volume striker with reach against a man who ends nights early.
What's at stake
A UFC contract, and nothing less. Road to UFC exists to find fighters for the main roster, and the winner of each division's final gets signed. For a country with no fighter on the roster and hundreds of thousands watching this one, a win would be a first for Nepal, and the size of that is hard to overstate.
If you're going on 7 February
- Tickets. Presale sign-up is open at ufc.com/sydney, which is also where VIP packages and card announcements will land. Register before general sale for a real choice of seats.
- •The free events are the sleeper. Open workouts, press conference and ceremonial weigh-ins cost nothing and put you closer to the fighters than any ticket. If Dhant is on the card, the weigh-in is where the Nepali crowd shows up in force.
- Getting there. Afterpay Arena is at Sydney Olympic Park. Trains run from Central with a change at Lidcombe. Check your ticket for included public transport rather than assuming.
- •Go early. Road to UFC bouts, when they sit on a card, run well before the main event. Turn up for the headliner and you may have missed the fight you came for.
- Watching instead. Road to UFC streams on UFC Fight Pass, and a Sunday card in Sydney means an evening start here, the easy end of the timezone for once.
Wear the colors
The official Drop 01 supporter collection is shipping across Australia and New Zealand. Crimson, blue and heavy cotton, the same colors that filled the arena in Shanghai. Get yours before fight week, because when the winner's name is announced there won't be time to print one.
