Road to UFC is the UFC's talent-finding series for Asia, and Season 5 is the one Nepal's Rabindra Dhant has reached the final of. If the terminology around qualifiers, rounds and contracts has been fuzzy, this guide lays it out plainly.
What the series is
The UFC's roster is global, but its scouting historically leaned on regions with deep professional pipelines. Road to UFC exists to fix that: the promotion invites fighters from across Asia, puts them into a tournament-style bracket in men's and women's divisions, and films the run. Fighters compete in quarterfinals, semifinals and a final, all staged on cards in Asia, with every bout counting as a professional fight on their records.
How Season 5 unfolded
The bantamweight bracket produced its quarterfinals in Macau in May 2026, where Dhant stopped Kimbert Alintozon. The semifinals ran in Shanghai on 28 August 2026: Dhant beat previously unbeaten Kasib Murdoch by split decision, and Japan's Ryo Tajima took a unanimous decision over Chungreng Koren on the same night. Those two winners meet in the final in Sydney on 7 February 2027.
What the winner actually gets
A UFC contract. Not a trial, not an invitation to a tryout: the division's final winner is signed to the UFC roster. That is the entire point of the series, and it is why a single fight in Sydney carries the weight of a career. For Nepal, which has never had a fighter on the roster, the contract would be the country's first, and one of the biggest moments in its sporting history.
Where to watch
Road to UFC events stream on UFC Fight Pass, and fight cards in Australia start at times friendly to both AU and NZ audiences. For the final on 7 February 2027 at Afterpay Arena in Sydney, fight-week open workouts, the press conference and ceremonial weigh-ins are free and open to the public.
